Make Teeth Look And Feel Natural Again
Restore your natural smile with our dental fillings. In our office, dental fillings are super common and really important. They fix up your teeth, stopping decay and infections that could lead to bigger problems. We use composite resin fillings that match your tooth colour perfectly. Unlike old metal fillings, these blend right in and stick to your tooth really well!
Why Are Fillings So Important?
Getting a filling might not be the most exciting thing on your to-do list, and we get that. You might even wonder why it’s necessary, especially if your tooth isn’t bothering you (yet). But here’s why we strongly recommend taking care of those cavities sooner rather than later:
- Prevent cavity growth: Fillings stop cavities from getting bigger.
- Avoid infections: They prevent painful infections or abscesses.
- Restore tooth strength: Fillings strengthen weakened teeth.
- Save money: They’re cost-effective in the long term.
- Reduce sensitivity: Fillings decrease sensitivity to hot and cold.
- Preserve your smile: They help maintain your natural smile.
How Is A Cavity Filled?
Gentle Freezing
Before we begin, we’re going to numb your gums gently. I know this part might seem a little nerve-wracking, but it’s important for your comfort. Once your gums are numb, you’ll barely feel anything while we work on your teeth.
Filling the Tooth
After we ensure your mouth is numb and you can’t feel anything, we’ll clean and prepare your tooth. Then, we’ll apply a sticky gel and mould a white filling material onto your tooth. We’ll shape it to fit perfectly with your bite and tooth shape.
Curing the Composite
Once we’ve placed the white filling material on your tooth, we use a special LED light to quickly harden and set it. The dentist carefully checks your tooth to ensure it’s perfect, making any final adjustments if needed.

Your consultation will include an examination of everything from your teeth, gums and soft tissues to the shape and condition of your bite. Generally, we want to see how your whole mouth looks and functions. Before we plan your treatment we want to know everything about the health and aesthetic of your smile, and, most importantly, what you want to achieve so we can help you get there.
Frequently Asked Questions
Your fillings can bring you joy for well over ten years with regular brushing, flossing, and our scheduled checkups!
Amalgam fillings, often referred to as “silver” or “mercury” fillings, used to be common. Despite ongoing debate about their safety, the Canadian Dental Association states that scientific studies have not proven amalgam fillings cause illness in the general population. So, if you have silver fillings, there’s no need to worry!
Using over-the-counter products for temporary tooth filling can provide short-term relief for minor damage or cavities until you see a dentist. However, they aren’t a permanent solution and can’t replace a professional filling. Cavities require proper cleaning, preparation, and filling by a dental professional to prevent further damage. Untreated cavities can lead to serious issues like tooth loss or abscess, so it’s important to seek professional dental care promptly.
If you’re in a lot of pain that’s keeping you up at night or making it hard to eat, it’s really important to call us right away. We can chat over the phone and figure out when you can come in. For now, try using a cold pack on your cheek where it hurts. Taking something like Tylenol or Advil can also help until you can see us. Just make sure to follow the instructions on the bottle, and let us know what you’ve taken when you get here.
After a filling, avoid hot or cold foods until the numbness wears off. Then, you can eat and drink as usual.
To prevent cavities, brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily, eat a balanced diet low in sugary snacks and drinks, and visit your dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings.
